*Lake** Ontario** Short Handed Racing Series* WindUp 2008

*Lake** Ontario** Short Handed Racing Series*

*2008 Season Windup*

For the sixth year in a row, the Lake Ontario Short Handed
Racing Series (LOSHRS) set new records for participation: There
were a total of 118 registered participants and an average of
over 70 vessels competing in each race. The word is spreading
about the /'Best Kept Secret On The Lake'/, as we had several
skippers voyaging all the way from Newcastle , Whitby ,
Youngstown , Port Dalhousie and Hamilton . If somebody from
Kingston or Rochester ~ not an impossible idea ~ joins the
lineup, our conquest will be pretty much complete.

The new course for the QCYC race, the first event of the season,
worked very well with everybody finishing within close proximity
of each other. The Youngstown weekend race is always one of the
big hits of the series and this year the mettle of all comers
was tested for physical endurance on the stormy return leg: There are
even rumours that some skippers promptly had a nap
(where they stood) on the dock after securing their boats upon
arrival! Never before has the Long Distance Race been so
strongly contested ~ 57 out of 58 vessels completed the
circumnavigation of the west end of the Lake, in pretty kindly
(sometimes too kind, as in dead-calm) conditions! After fog at
the tail end of the first leg of this weekend race, 2008 was the
second year that the return race from Dalhousie in September
counted as part of the series and based on the splendid racing
to be had that day, we're pretty sure that it's a keeper. It
just keeps getting better every year!!!

As per the closing remarks from Co-Chair Ian McAllister at the
Awards Banquet:

/"Wind, Friends, Excitement, Exhilaration, Competition, Family,
Friends, Fulfillment, Time together, Relaxation, Memories for a
life-time… That's Sailing! AND that is what LOSHRS is all
about too!"///

So… for 2009, we've made what we foresee to be even a few more
improvements.

In the registration process:

Ø You will be using e-Register to enter LOSHRS. Drop by
our boat show booth (combined with the LO300) at the Toronto
Boat Show in January; we'll tell you everything about the
e-register program.

Ø The e-Register system permits you to copy in the past
year's information, if it is still the same.

Ø The Early Bird SPECIAL of $100 for registration for the
entire season will run until March 31^st . Only thereafter will
the price for the season be $140.

Ø If you come and visit us at the Boat Show and register at
home you will receive one of our signature yellow LOSHRS
T-Shirts for 2009.

Ø You will receive further emails about the e-system, so
watch for them…

We would like to again express our appreciation for the
continued support of our sponsors. We anticipate that they and
others will meet the growing opportunity for promotional
exposure of themselves, their corporations and LOSHRS with
expanding contributions.
